Each minute you want to remove a volume of air equivalent to the total volume of air in your room. For all the equipment this is measured in cubic feet. So multiply the length by the width by the height of your garden area and that is the cubic feet value you want to match to the CFM of an inline fan and/or filter.

For an in detail article on calculating fan requirements visit this page from Urban Garden Magazine that specifies the steps of two methods for the calculation.

Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal or activated coal, is a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous and thus to have a very large surface area available for adsorption or chemical reactions.
